ZETLAND CLUB, COATHAM ROAD.
BOMBING RAID REDCAR

During World War II in an air raid what was thought to be on the steel works t bombs landed in Redcar. One of these bombs landed in Queen street striking a house, and the Second bomb striking the Zetland Club in Coatham Road. Fifteen people were killed, and some injured, one of theses persons Alderman Harris, The Mayor,, with sixteen people injured.

The Zetland Club was located in Coatham Road opposite the War memorial. The apparent empty space where the Zetland Club stood is now a Remembrance Garden, not only containing a plaque to this event, but also remembrance plaques to other hostilities throughout the war in which people and soldiers gave their lives.

2 other bombs also exploded one on the golf course and one on nearby land.
