The usual monthly meeting of this Board was held on Monday afternoon (03/08). Present – Messrs Coulson (in the chair), Harrison, Johnston, and Mallaby; J. G. Thompson, (clerk), and D. D. Bookless (surveyor).

The bathing and boating regulations were next considered, and a handbill, embodying the resolutions of the Board on these subjects, were ordered to be issued.

The Surveyor reported that Mr Garbutt had infringed the bylaws by leaving manure in Lord Street at 6:40 AM The Board intimated their intention of taking the legal proceedings in any future cases.

The application of Mr John Marwood, rate collector, for an increase of salary, was discussed, and it was resolved that the same be increased to £25 for the current year.

A letter was read from Mr J. L. Castiglioni stating that he wished to lay down flags in front of his bazaar, and asking the Board to lay down kerbstones at once. The surveyor was directed to inform Mr Castiglioni that they could not accede to his application at present.

Plans of alterations in Mr F. Cunningham’s shop, High Street, were rejected, on the grounds that the proposed alterations encroached on the already insufficient yard area.
