ROYAL NATIONAL LIFEBOAT INSTITUTION.

            The annual general meeting of the members and friends of this institution was held on Tuesday last (05/03), at Willis’s Rooms. In the unavoidable absence of the Duke of, Northumberland, president of the institution, the chair was occupied by Thomas Chapman, Esq. Mr. HR. Lewis (secretary) red the report, which set forth that since the last meeting 14 new lifeboats had been placed on our coasts, nine of them at new stations, and 5 to replace other boats, there being now 268 lifeboats under the management of the society. During the year 1877 the lifeboats of the institution had saved 841 persons, nearly the whole of them in perilous circumstances. In addition, the lifeboats last year helped to rescue 35 vessels from destruction. The Chairman addressed the meeting and expressed regret that the Duke of Northumberland was unavoidably detained at Her Majesty’s leave. The report having been adopted. Several gentlemen addressed the meeting, and resolutions were agreed to approving of the work of the institution.
