FATAL ACCIDENT AT UP LEATHAM MINES

            On Monday afternoon (22/08), an inquest was held at the Zetland Arms In, Marske-by-the-Sea, before Mr. W. Robinson, deputy coroner, on view of the body of Thomas Hickmott, 35 years of age, who had been killed by a fall of stone at Upleatham Mines, on Friday morning (19/08). Mr. Bell, Government Inspector of Mines, was present at the inquest. After hearing the evidence which showed that deceased was engaged in filling a wagon, while his mate was drilling a hole for the purpose of firing a shot, at the time the fall of storm took place, the jury returned a verdict of “Accidental death.” Deceased leaves a widow, one child.
