DEATH – WALLACE William. 45 years at Coatham

SUDDEN DEATH AT COATHAM

            An inquest was held at the station hotel, on Thursday, the 28th ult., Before Mr. W. Robinson , deputy coroner, on view of the body of a gentleman named William Wallace, a large landed proprietors, near Edinburgh, who was found dead in bed at his lodgings in Coatham on the previous day (27/09). This MacKenzie deposed that deceased was about 45 years of age, and came to her house on the 16th ult. He complained of difficulty breathing, and the day before his death was attended by a medical man.

Dr. McDonnell said that he had been called in to see deceased on the Tuesday previous (19/10). He found him suffering from shortness of breath, also from gastric irritation of the stomach, and sent him some medicine to relieve the latter. When he called the following morning, he went up to deceased’s bedroom and found he had been dead about four hours. He examined the body, and was of the opinion that deceased had died from heart disease. when witness saw deceased. On the first occasion, he thought he was suffering from some serious complaint and he intended, after seeing him a second time, to communicate with his friends. A verdict was returned in accordance with the medical testimony
