PONY RACE AT REDCAR.
A match for £25 aside between Mr Whittaker’s (of Redcar) ‘Never-Thought-of’ and Mr H. Berkeley’s (of Middlesbrough) ‘Polly’ was decided yesterday afternoon (28/01), in the presence of a large number of spectators. The race was expected to have come off at 2:30, but it was nearly 5 o’clock before the competitors put in an appearance. The course was 1 mile straight, between the Tees breakwater and the Coatham pier, and the race was won by the Redcar mare, by a little over a head. Betting: 5 to 3 on Never-Thought-of.
