Gained a B.A. @ St Peter’s College, Cambridge
Entered Royal Air Force and served from 1944 – 1948 Flight Lieutenant, and fighter pilot flying Vampires, Tempests and Spitfires.

1952 – 1963 | District Commissioner, Uganda. |
1963 – 1965 | British Information Officer – Kuching (Sarawak). |
1965 – 1967 | Deputy High Commissioner – Jesselton. |
1967 – 1968 | Brunei. |
1968 – 1970 | Ankara, Turkey. |
1970 – 1972 | Jakarta. |
1972 – 1974 | Saigon (South Vietnam) – First Chief Officer. |
1976 – 1977 | Kuala Lampur. |
1977 – 1979 | Kuala Lampur – Deputy High Commissioner. |
1979 | Freedom of the City of London. |
1980 – 1985 | Stanley (Falkland Islands) – Governor & Commandeering Chief of the Falkland Islands – High Commissioner British Antarctic Territory. |
1982 – 1983 | Argentine forces invaded Falkland Islands and surrendered to forces after being out numbered. Returned approximately 2 months later when British Armed Forces re took islands. |
1983 | Knighted by Queen 20th July, 1983. |
1985 | Became Governor again also awarded a Freeman of Stanley. |
1985 | Retired from Diplomatic Service. |
