HOTEL ROBBERY AT REDCAR
At the Redcar police station, on Thursday morning (10/12), before the Rev. B. N. R. Batty, Elizabeth O’Brien, alias Smith, who was stated to Bill from Warrenby, was charged with stealing a pair of earrings, value £2.10s, and a silk gown from Mrs Hutchinson’s Temperance Hotel, Redcar, on the second inst. Prisoner had been staying at the hotel from 30th November, representing falsely that she was engaged as housekeeper to a relative of Mrs Hutchinson, who live at Middlesbrough. She departed on the 2nd inst., And the articles were missed from a bedroom that had been occupied by her, and no trace of her was found until defendant was apprehended at Saltburn on the 15th inst. by Sgt Alexander, with the earrings in her possession. She then alleged the proxycutetrix had made her a present of the articles. The prisoner was remanded until Tuesday (22/12), when she was again brought up at the Guisborough Police Court and committed for trial at the next Northallerton sessions.
