REDCAR AND COATHAM VOLUNTEER LIFE BRIGADE
The quarterly practice of this brigade took place on Saturday last (9/02), in the presence of Commander Cecil F. Johnson, R.N., the inspecting officer. After a good shot being fired, the line was adjusted to the polls fixed for that purpose on Coatham pier, and the usual practice with the life saving apparatus followed, under the direction of Mr. V. Browning, chief officer of the coastguard. Several new members have been enrolled since the last inspection, and at the close of the practice the inspecting officer spoke in congratulatory terms of the increased efficiency of the Brigade. The price for throwing the line was won by Charles Whitaker for the fourth time in succession.
