MEETINGS OTHER PLACES – YMCA Redcar & Coatham

Accreditation the Redcar and Saltburn-by-the-Sea Gazette 18/04/1878.

EARLY CLOSING.

A meeting of masters was held in the Redcar and Coatham Y.M.C.A. Reading-room, on Wednesday evening (16/04), to consider this subject, Mr. J. H   Webster, presiding. A lengthy discussion took place, in which the objections to early closing during the summer months were fully stated, the chief difficulty being that the grocers, provision dealers, and chemists were said to be frequently in request by visitors after the arrival of the train at eight p.m. This could not, however, be the case with other shops, and the Chairman urged that as many shops as possible should be clause at 7.30 p.m. The only resolution carried was worn to the effect that the grocers, provision dealers, and the chemists should agree amongst themselves to clause half-an-hour earlier than heretofore, viz., at 8.30 p.m.
