THE GAS QUESTION AT REDCAR
Notices, signed by 261 consumers of gas residing within the Redcar, Marske, and Saltburn Gas Company, have been forwarded to the company, intimating that unless the price of gas is reduced to 3s-4d per 1,000 feet, less 10 per cent if paid within fourteen days, they will cease to use it altogether, or by the use of oil lamps considerably reduce the quantity consumed at the present time. They also point out what they consider the injustice of making those who consume gas for illuminating purposes pay 7d, per 1,000 feet more than is charged to persons using it for cookery and motive power. They ask that the reduction they claim should be made from the commencement of the present quarter.
