REDCAR LOCAL BOARD OF HEALTH MEETING
PROPRIETORS OF HORSES AND DONKEYS – WATER SUPPLY – NUISANCE
On Monday (05/08), at the monthly meeting of this board the Surveyor reported that proceedings were taken against the proprietors of horses and ponies for offences against the Board’s bye-laws. Out of the ten cases seven were convicted, which had had the beneficial result of clearing away the horses and ponies from the donkey stand. He suggested that before another season the licensing of all drivers of hackney carriages, ponies, and donkeys, so as to ensure a better class of drivers.
The Surveyor further reported that the puddle wall at the spring has given way again, but he had had it repaired. A concrete wall, he said, built across would be more reliable than the puddle, as the spring in its position could not have that attention it required when puddle was used. Mr Lee thought that they should have the place properly done, as it was very necessary that it should be safe. The Chairman thought if there was a subsidence the concrete wall would be of no use. It was decided to allow the matter to remain in abeyance for a time.
Attention was drawn to a bad nuisance which existed in Redcar Lane through a quantity of fish refuse being allowed to accumulate on land on land in the occupation of Mr Harrison. A notice was ordered to be served for the nuisance to be abated, and the Surveyor asked to suggest to Mr Pybus, from whose place the refuse came, that it should be carted away every morning.
