SEVERE GALE – NORTH EAST COAST

A serious hurricane  of wind and rain visited the North-East coast yesterday (28/08), and has caused a good deal of destruction on the sea board. Rain fell in torrents throughout the day, flooding the streets and sewers, but we have heard of no damage been occasioned. In the afternoon there was a heavy swell on the Tees at high tide. During the evening the wind moderated, and although a good deal of rain fell during the night, the weather has been more settled this morning.
