THE SEASON SO FAR
We have this week been precipitated into the heat of summer, almost in a day, and the energies of lodging-house keepers have been devoted to finishing the “thorough cleaning” of their houses usually gone through previous to arrival of visitors.
Since Monday, (18/05), the heat has been intense, and the refreshing breezes from the German Ocean will speedily tempt town residents to our far-famed beach for a health giving stroll. On Tuesday (19/05), at noon, the thermometer stood at 85 in the son, and in the evening a heavy thunder shower passed over the district. The lightning was remarkably vivid.
The fields and the lanes in the neighbourhood of Redcar and Coatham are just now fragrant with the orders of hawthorn blossom, which was never more plentiful, in many cases the hedgerows being white over, from end to end. There are but few visitors in this week, but doubtless there will be a much longer list ere the end of the month.
