WHITSUNTIDE 1874
On Monday (24/05) and Tuesday (25/05) there was a large index of excursions into Redcar and Saltburn-by-the-Sea, special trains having been run from Leeds and other places. The weather was very unfavourable for out-door enjoyment on Monday, but on Tuesday it was much better, being quite summer like. At Saltburn refreshments were supplied in the Zetland Pavilion, at very reasonable charges and large numbers availed themselves of the privilege. The pleasure grounds and pier were also extensively patronised. The number of persons admitted to the Redcar and Coatham Piers at 1d each were as follows:-
Redcar:- Monday, 616; Tuesday 600;
Coatham:- Monday 1830; Tuesday, 1,000.
A special train, bringing a large number of excursionists, has arrived this morning (Thursday 28/05) from Barnard Castle
