COATHAM – Coatham Convalescent Home and Church

The Redcar and Saltburn-by-the-Sea Gazette 24/03/1876

 COATHAM CONVALESCENT HOME

After being closed as usual since Christmas, the Home was opened for patients on Monday last (20/03), by the Rev. J. Postlethwaite, who came over from his residence in Lancashire to make the necessary arrangements. No sign is given that the Chapel will be open to the public, and it is probable that any religious ministrations will be confined entirely to the inmates of the house. If officiating clergyman was licensed by the Archbishop, under the Private Chapel’s Act, it is by no means follows that this would extend beyond the household itself. The outside congregation have a serious grievance, but the law on the subject requires amendment, for at present they have no redress either legal or otherwise.
