AN INCOURAGIBLE YOUNG THIEF AT COATHAM.
At Guisborough Petty Sessions, a lad about fifteen years of age, named William Bowers, was brought up in custody charged with stealing £1 in gold from Henry Holmes, flour dealer, of Coatham, on the (25/11) – The prisoner went into the shop under pretence of purchasing some bran and beans, and shortly after he left the sovereign was missed from the till. When arrested and searched by Police constable Metcalf shortly afterwards, the money was found on him. Prisoner, who was convicted of stealing some cigarettes, etc., a week or two ago, and was sentenced to receive a flogging, now pleaded guilty, and was ordered to undergo six weeks’ imprisonment.
