The first entertainment of this season was given on Friday evening, the 16th inst., A. H. Turner Newcomen, Esq., in the chair. The room was crowded to excess. Bland, Robson, Acon, and Whateley; songs by Mrs. Thomson, Miss Wood, Mr. W. Burton, Mr. Cockin, and Mr. Allatt. Mr. Cockin sung two of Stephen Adam’s songs, “True Blue” and “A Warrior bold “ in a very effective style, and Mrs. Thomson rendered Sullivan’s “Let me dream again.” very pleasingly; Mr. W. Burton gave “Better late than never, “ and in response to an encore sand . “England,” by Diehl; Miss Wood’s singing of “Katie’s secret” was charming; and Mr. Allatt created roars of laughter by the introduction of two comic songs.
