FARMS – Pleuro-Pneumonia at Coatham Farm

Accreditation the Redcar and Saltburn News 4/06/1874.

FRESH OUTBREAK OF PLEURO-PNEUMONIA AT COATHAM.

Another outbreak of this disease has occurred on the file of Mr Peter Wallace, West Coatham, near Redcar. In accordance with the provisions of the Contagious Diseases (Animal) Act, the suffering animal – a valuable heifer – was shot on Tuesday afternoon (02/06), in the presence of the police superintendent of the district, Mr Prest, of Guisborough, and Mr Rickaby, veterinary surgeon. This is the eighth case of pleuro-pneumonia, which has occurred on the farm of Mr Wallace during the past four or five weeks, and as he has taken every precaution to ward off from his stock this insidious and fatal distemper, the greatest sympathy is felt for him in the neighbourhood.
