ASSAULT AT REDCAR.

At the Guisbro’ Petty Sessions, on Tuesday (05/07), George Robinson, bricklayer, was indicted for having, on the 25th ult., Committed a gross assault upon Charles Picknett, also a bricklayer. From the evidence adduced it appears that the plaintiff and defendant had been in partnership, but had dissolved it that week, whereupon Robinson wished to have his share out of the firm at once, before the expenses could be equitably adjusted, and because Picknett would not consent to such an arrangement they had some words about it, and Robinson. “set to,” and thrashed his quondam partner. The magistrates, in delivering judgement, thought that the assault was more serious and unprovoked, and they therefore send him to jail for six weeks with hard Labour, not allowing him the option of a fine.
