PEOPLE – MORRIS, Wm. – Alderman-Mayor-Councillor

Accreditation Cleveland Standard 17/10/1936

Councillor Wm. Morris Appointed Alderman
Successor to Ald. Charlton.

Fourteen votes, including his own were given in favour of Councillor W. Morris for his election to the Aldermanic Bench of the Redcar Town Council at a special meeting on Thursday to fill the vacancy caused by the death of Alderman W. Charlton.

The only other “possible” was Councillor Mrs. I. Lonsdale, who received one vote. One voting paper was spoiled.

There was a burst of applause as Alderman Morris took his seat on the Aldermanic Bench. Thanking the Council for the honour conferred upon him, he said that is was more gratifying to him to be placed in such a position. “A seat on the bench is a thing of which to be proud,” he added, and I only hope that in the years to come I may be of the same service to this borough as the Alderman seated here before me.
