NARROW ESCAPE OF THREE REDCAR FISHERMEN
On Monday morning, during a violent south westerly gale, a Redcar fisherman named Dobson and his two sons had a very narrow escape from drowning. They were out pursuing their avocation when overtaken by a sudden storm, and in returning on passing Saltscar the mast of the sail of their coble gave way before the strong wind falling partly over the side of the boat, which was almost capsized. After making an ineffectual attempt to cut away the mast, those on board succeeded in hauling in the sail, and the shore was afterwards reached in safety. Several other fishing cobles were also caught in the above storm, and the crews all got a good drenching before they could get to land.
