REDCAR LOCAL BOARD OF HEALTH MEETING

ROAD REPAIR – FISHERMEN’S BOATS AND LICENSES – FOYING

The monthly meeting was held on Monday (01/06), Mr W. Marwood presiding. The Surveyor (Mr Armitage) reported that he had examined Redcar Road with a view to the future cost of maintaining and keeping it in proper repair to the satisfaction of the County Council.  On the motion of Mr Lee, seconded by Mr Hood it was agreed to do the work as heretofore, and not allow the County Council to take over the road.

A boatman named Picknett appeared before the Board and asked whether he, along with the other licensed boatmen, could take up and land passengers on the space between the bathing machines, as there were times when it was rough to the east and west of the bathing machines; while in between where the machines stood it was comparatively smooth. The Board intimated that he would be infringing the bye-laws if he did any such thing.
He further enquired whether it was right for boatman holding licenses to send out scouts in order to get persons to go out in their boats, or whether it was imperative upon them to stand at their landing place.

The Board replied that it was an infringement of their bye-laws to send out scouts, and boatmen must remain at their stands, or they will be prosecuted.
