REDCAR RACECOURSE – PUBLIC
RIGHT OF FOOTPATH

On the Kirkleatham Board meeting evidence for and against the public right to have a footpath leading to the Racecourse was laid before the Board. The footpath had been used by some persons whose evidence was taken from 35 to 40 years, and on the other hand Mr Rutherford held that the road was only an accommodation one to the farms. The Chairman proposed, and Mr James seconded, that the Board considered the public had a right of way to the racecourse, and it was carried by only these two members voting for it, the other members remaining neutral. Mr Rutherford denied that the road had been ploughed up and the stiles pulled down.
