REDCAR LOCAL BOARD OF HEALTH MEETING

            An adjournment monthly meeting of this Board was held at the Board-room, West Terrace, Redcar, on Thursday evening (06/01). Present: Messrs. J. H. Webster (chairman), J. Coulson, M. Crabtree, J. Mallaby, J. G. Thompson (clerk).and D. D. Bookless (surveyor).

Minutes having been read and confirmed, noticed was ordered to be given to the owners of property calling their attention to the desirability of having all pipes which are connected with drains in dwelling houses so altered as to disconnect them from direct communication with the sewers; and to the necessity for having all ash pits properly roofed.

On the abortion of the Chairman, seconded by Mr. Crabtree, it was resolved that the annual allowance to the Surveyor for fire and gas for the Board room, be increased to £6. Complaint having been made by the Rev. W. Milburne of the existence of a reeking dunghill in Mr. James Johnston’s garden, adjoining the Vicarage, the Surveyor was ordered to give notice for the abatement of the nuisance. The attention of the Surveyor was called to the state of the footpath in front of the Pavilion Cottage, and he was ordered to put the same into a proper state of repair. The Clerk was directed to write to the Railway Company, asking them to place wickets at the level crossing in Redcar Lane for the convenience of passengers, the gates there being nearly always closed, and pedestrians of structured there constantly. The Clerk was instructed to obtain a copy of the bill intended to be introduced into Parliament,

during the next session, on behalf of the Redcar Gas Company, and report thereon to the next meeting of the Board.
