REDCAR LOCAL BOARD OF HEALTH MEETING.

The monthly meeting of the Redcar Local Board of Health was held on Monday last (02/07). Mr. J. H. Webster in the chair. The other members present being Messrs. Blatherwick, Coulson, Crabtree, Patterson, and Wren; with Mr. R. Nicholson (deputy clerk), and Mr. D. D. Bookless (surveyor). The minutes having been read and confirmed, the chairman called attention to the dangers arising from reckless riding on the beach, and read the following letter which he had received with reference to the subject:-

Sandringham House, Redcar, June 22nd
Sir, – , I beg to call of the attention of your Board to the danger arising from reckless riding on the sands. My children, accompanied by then nurse, were down on the beach. These afternoon, when a pony belonging to Charles Sill, and ridden by a boy in his employee, was galloped amongst them, knocking down to, and considerably injuring one of them (a little girl of four years old). I have reported the matter to the police, but they tell me that they can do nothing, as the control of the sands rests with the Board of Health. Surely the visitors to Redcar are entitled to have their children protected from occurrences of this kind.  I remain, Sir, yours obediently,

Milbank L. Horsfall.

The Chairman of the Board of Health

The matter having been fully discussed, it was resolved, on the motion of Mr. Crabtree, seconded by Mr. Wren, that the Clerk be instructed to issue a stringent notice warning persons of the determination of the Board to prosecute anyone guilty of reckless riding or driving in future.

The remaining business before the meeting was principally of routine character.
