 KIRKLEATHAM LOCAL BOARD OF HEALTH MEETING          

A special meeting of the Local Board of Health for this district of Kirkleatham was held at the Lobster Inn, Coatham on Friday afternoon last (12/10). Present Messrs. A. H. Turner Newcomer (chairman), Hikeley, James, Nelson, Proud, Ridley, and Wallis; M. B. Dodds (clerk), and J. H. Burton (rate collector). The Rate Collector submitted an estimate of the rateable value of the district, viz, Houses, £16,734; land, £7605. The meeting then proceeded to consider the probable expenditure for the current half-year, which was estimated as follows:- Repair of roads (materials £60, team labour £70, manual labour £70), £200, lighting £140, scavenging and cleaning roads £100, sewerage (repairs) £25, paving (repairs) £20, salaries of officers hundred and £20, rent of office and rates £12, printing and advertising £25, formation and election expenses £100, books and seal  £10, miscellaneous expenses £100 -total £852. It was ordered that the estimate be approved, and that the Clerk give the requisite notice of the intention of the Board to make a general district rate of 1s in the £ on Tuesday, the 23rd against. Messrs. Rutherford, Proud, and Hikeley were appointed a committee to confer with the rate-collector as to the valuation of the farm houses in the district.

A report from Mr. Pavour (surveyor to the Langbaurgh East Highway Board), who is superintending the repair of the roads until the Surveyor commences his duties, was received, and he was requested to procure quotations for the supply of 100 tons of whinstone for immediate use. This was the whole of the business.
