ACCIDENT – Rescue from drowning

Accreditation the Redcar and Saltburn-by-the-Sea Gazette 15/09/1871.

GALLANT RESCUE FROM DROWNING.

On Monday morning last (11/09), a young woman who is at present staying in Redcar, had a very narrow escape from drowning. She having ventured too far, got out of her depth and was observed by Mr. R. P. Skinner, the proprietor of the bathing machines, to be struggling in the water. He instantly seized a lifebuoy, and rushed in and succeeded in bringing her to shore. This is the 12th person who Mr. Skinner has been instrumental in saving from a watery grave; and we understand a movement has been set on foot to present him with a testimonial for his bravery.
