SPRING MEETING – HORSE RACING
Arrangements are being made for the annual races to take place on Friday, 15 May. The “events” are four a number, viz.:- The Cleveland Hunt Cup of thirty sovereigns, second to receive four sovereigns, entrance £2 each, weight for age, penalties and allowances; the Licensed Victualler’s Stakes of £15, thirty shillings entrance, weight, &c., as in the Cleveland Cup; the Hack Stakes of £10, entrance twenty shillings, &c., As in the Cleveland Cup; and a Pawnee stake of £10, entrance twenty shillings; for ponies not exceeding 3 1/2 hands in height, weight for age, in heats half a mile straight.
