KIRKLEATHAM – Kirkleatham Local Government District

KIRKLEATHAM LOCAL GOVERNMENT DISTRICT

            The Provisional Order constituting the Parish of Kirkleatham, a Local Government District, has been received. It may be stated that the area of the parish is 4330 acres, while the population is estimated at about 4000, and the rateable value at £24,000. The following is a copy of the Order –

“To the Guardians of the Pool of the Guisborough Union the North Riding, of York, being the Summitry Authority for the Rural Sanitary District of that Union:-

“To the Overseers of the Corps of the Parish of Kirkleatham, in the said District;

“To Mr. Ralph Woodwark, Farmer, of Thrushwood Farm, in the said Parish;

“And to all others whom it may concern.

“Whereas, the Owners and Ratepayers of the Parish of Kirkleatham, situated in the Rural Sanitary District of the Guisborough Union, and being a Place having a known and defined boundary within the meaning of the Section 272 of the Public Health Act, 1875, have, by a resolution passed in the manner provided by Schedule III. to that Act, declared that it is expedient that such Place should be constituted a Local Government District;

“And whereas the period prescribed by the above named Section has elapsed since the receipt of a copy of the said Resolution by the Local Government Board;

“Now, therefore, We, the Local Government Board, in pursuance of the power is given by the Statutes in that behalf, hereby Declare that the said Parish of Kirkleatham shall be a Local Government District, to be designated the Kirkleatham Local Government District.

“And we hereby appoint Mr. Ralph Woodwark, Farmer, of Thrushwood Farm, in the said Parish to be Returning Officer for the purposes of the first election of a Local Board for the said district, in pursuance of this Order.

“And We hereby Order as follows:

“Article 1. – This Order shall come into operation on the Sixth day of July, One hundred and eighty-seven.

“Article 11. – The number of Members of the Local Board to be elected for the said District shall be Nine.

“Article 111. – This Notice of the first election of the said Local Board shall be published on the Twenty-seventh day of July, One thousand eight hundred and seventy seven.

“Article 1V. –  If the election be contested, the voting papers shall be collected on the Thirty-first day of August, One thousand eight hundred and seventy-seven.

“Given under the Seal of Office of the Local Government Board, this Second day of July, in the year One thousand eight hundred and seventy-seven.
