KIRKLEATHAM JUBILEE CELEBRATIONS

          A public meeting was held last Thursday evening (02/06), in the Lecture Hall, to consider the best means of celebrating the Jubilee. Mr. C. Trotter presided.  On the motion of Dr. Stainthorpe it was resolved that,

          June 21st be kept as a holiday.

          That a free dinner and tea be provided for all persons over 50 years of age.

          That all the wives of working class and their children be given a free tea.

          That each child be presented with a medal.

          That a promenade concert be given at night in the Lecture Hall followed by a dance for all the parishioners.

          It was further resolved that all the working class be given a free ticket to Newcastle, including admission to the Exhibition, and dinner provided. The date of the trip being the 18th or 25th of June. A vote of thanks was accorded to the chairman for presiding, and for his kind offer to allow the use of the lawn on the occasion of the Jubilee.
