CHARACTER – Smudge Man

“SMUDGE” MAN

A photographer who carried one of the crudest cameras to be seen. An Aptus ferrotype camera, and the man usually working it was technically known as an itinerant photographer. He would  tell you to keep still whilst he maneuvered into position, and before you had time to adjust, had taken your photograph.. Often charged sixpence and maybe two pence extra if you had the card framed. With the future devolpment of camera(s), became quite prevalent at most sea-side locations and other large events.
