Accreditation The Redcar and Saltburn-by-the-Sea Gazette 20/07/1877

PROPOSED FIRE ENGINE AND FIRE BRIGADE

A public meeting was convened by handbill and circular, was held on Wednesday evening, in the Board room, West Terrace, Redcar, to consider the necessity of obtaining an efficient fire engine and organising a fire brigade. The hour at which the meeting was called (five p.m.) was somewhat inconvenient, and the attendance was small. Mr. J. H. Webster was unanimously voted to the chair, and after considerable discussion the following resolutions were proposed.

  • “That this meeting form itself into a committee for the purpose of obtaining the support of the public to the project of securing an efficient fire engine and fire brigade for Redcar, Coatham, Saltburn, and the district.”
  • “That the committee communicate with the public bodies of the district and the insurance offices with a view to obtaining their support and co-operation.”
  • “That Mr. Crabtree is appointed secretary to the committee.”
