HARBOUR OF REFUGE ON THE NORTH-EAST COAST.

Lord Claud Hamilton (M.P. For Lynn) will move on March 7th “that the recommendation of the Harbour Commissioners of 1868 be carried out.” The recommendation referred to was “that a Harbour of refuge be erected at Filey.” The late terrible disasters on the coast have called the attention to the strange fact that there is a coastline of 200 miles in extent, from the Forth to the Humber, without a refuge for ships: and yet the traffic is unequalled in extent. The heavy loss of life and property, which annually takes place on the North-East coast calls loudly for this long promised refuge harbour, and it may be whole that Lord Claud Hamilton’s motion will lead to the desired end.
