REDCAR LOCAL BOARD OF HEALTH
AND THE SEA WALL

            A special meeting of the Redcar Local Board of Health was held last night (16/01) at the office, West Terrace ” to approve or reject plans of the sea wall and the promenade, and to give permission on otherwise to the Surveyor of the Local All to act as superintendent of the work.” The members present work;- Mr E. W. Lennard (Chairman), Dr Horner, Messrs James Johnson, W Whitaker J. Cowl, and H. Moore, with the Clerk (Mr J. G. Thompson), and the Surveyor for (Mr M. Crabtree.) “Mr J. H. Webster having, as secretary of Sea-wall and Promenade Committee, given in and deposited plans of the proposed sea wall and promenade, with the approaches from the beach and existing streets, and numbered respectively 43,” the Board proceeded to examine the same, and an animated discussion upon details of the plan ensued. In reply to Mr Johnson, the Clerk stated that there was some doubt as to the legality of members of the Board also being members of the See Wall Committee, and ultimately it was ordered ” the plans be approved, so far as they relate to that portion of the sea wall and promenade which is situated within the district of Redcar, and that the seal of the board is affixed thereto.” During the discussion of the other business of the meeting, the Surveyor retired from the room, and it was ordered “That the Local For gives Mr Crabtree permission to superintend the proposed work on behalf of the Sea Wall Committee; but the Board reserves the right to withdraw such permission at any time if they think fit. After, the above minutes, and plans had been sealed the meeting closed.
