PAINTING FROM THE STUDIOS OF MR. S. HOGGARD

A very pleasing portrait of master Fawcett (son of the Rev. W. Fawcett, of Brancepeth Rectory, Durham), in nautical costume from the studio of Mr. S. Hoggard, Coatham Road, Redcar, is now being exhibited in the window of the Gazette office, where it is attracting considerable attention. The picture about 1in x 12in., painted in watercolours, and has been enlarged from a carte-de-visite, which is also shown: it affords another instance of the fidelity of photography in producing an accurate resemblance of the original, and of the artist’s   skill in enlarging and reproducing the picture, so as to equal, if not surpass, a painting from life.
