GOLDEN WEDDING – KIRKLEATHAM – SPENCER
Mr. and Mrs. John Spencer of the gardens, Kirkleatham celebrated their Golden g on Wednesday 13, 1896, by the rev. J. Groves, then Vicar of Redcar, in Redcar parish Church, assisted by the Vicar of Kirkleatham, the Rev. Wain.
Mr. Skinner has also just celebrated 62 years at Kirkleatham Gardens. Before taking over the Gardens he worked for Mr. Aitken. Mr. Skinner’s father brought the first of the bathing machines to Redcar. He was also actively connected with the old Zetland Lifeboat and the others which followed.
Mrs. Skinner before her marriage was Miss Baldwin; her parents kept the Crown & Anchor Hotel, in High Street, Redcar.
