LIFEBOAT PRACTICE AT REDCAR

The quarterly practice with the new lifeboat “Burton-on-Trent” took place on Saturday (02/09). The boat having been most successfully launched, under the direction of Mr. J. Bates , chief officer of the coastguard, was taken out to sea in charge of Mr. J. Burnicle, coxswain. After proceeding with oars for a mile, sale was hoisted, and the boat was kept under canvas for over an hour. There was a very heavy sea running, the wind been E.N.E., and this served to bring out the capabilities of the boat in an admirable manner. Before returning, the men were exercised in throwing the line, firing rockets, etc.
