LIFEBOAT SERVICES IN 1873.

            In 1873, the lifeboats of the National Lifeboat Institution saved 469 lives, in addition to 21, vessels from destruction. During the same period the lifeboat Institution granted rewards for saving 197 lives by fishing and other boats, making a grand total of 600 lives saved last year. Altogether, the Institution has contributed from its formation to the saving of 22,151 shipwrecked persons, for which services, it has granted 935 gold and silver medals, and £41,374 in money.
