Mr. R. Jenery Shee, of the Inner Temple, gave a series of readings and recitations from English, Irish, and American poets and humourists, to a select and appreciative, but not numerous audience, on Wednesday evening (23/01).

The programme was as follows ;- “Keen Robert of Sicily,” Longfellow; “The Wake of Tim O’Hara,” Buchannan; “Rienzi’s Address to the Men of Rome,” Mitford; “A Night with the Shakers,” Ward; “The Pool Traveller,” Dickens; “Ode to My Son,” Hood; “Marino Faliero’s Imprecation on Venice.” Byron; “Handy Andy,”. Lover. Mr. Shee has a fine voice, and great power of expression; in the humorous pieces he was very effective, but although these were excellent in their way, his rendering of “The Pool Traveller,” was unrivalled in its exquisite pathos, and this was decidedly the piece of the night.
